Oahu Campgrounds for Campervans

So, you’re getting ready to go camping on Oahu and you want to know which campgrounds allow campervans on the island? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Here is a comprehensive list of everywhere you can take a campervan on Oahu. You’ll want to book far in advance and trust us when we say there are some campgrounds that you’ll definitely want to avoid. Here are all the ones that we think will set you up for a great Oahu camping adventure.

1. Malaekahana Beach Campground

Malaekahana is a private campground located just 5 minutes up the road from La’ie (home to the Polynesian Cultural Center). It’s also right next to our favorite beginner surf spot on Oahu: Castle’s. The campground has over 74 campsites and welcomes vehicle campers for under $10/per person per night.

Booking is done over the phone, but you can check availability out online. They are doing some renovations to the campground as of 2024, but will reopen summer 2024.

The campground has decent amenities including fire pits, bathrooms, water spouts and picnic tables. Check-in is at 1PM and checkout is at noon the following day. They also have surfboard, standup paddle board and bicycle rentals available. We consider this campground as the best for exploring the north shore and you can click here to check on the campground’s availability.

2. Camp Mokule’ia

Camp Mokule’ia is another campground located on the north shore, about 15 minutes from Haleiwa, the famous surf town. The north shore is much less populated and more laidback than the downtown Honolulu, making it a great place for camping.

Camp Mokule’ia is right on the beach and features basic amenities that you would expect such as bathroom, showers, sink, fire pit and picnic tables. Reservations can be done online and start at $30/night per site. You can make your reservation here.

3. Sun Farm Hawaii

Sometimes you don’t want to stay so far from the city and in that case, Sun Farm is perfect for you. It’s just 15 minutes from downtown Honolulu but when you get there, you’ll feel like you entered a different world when you step onto this serene farm – perfect for camping.

They only have a few campervan spots available, but the price is very reasonable for the location, starting at $55/night. They are only five minutes from some of the best snorkeling in the world at Hanauma Bay and also close to Koko Head, a popular hike on Oahu.

This farm and campground features flush toilets, showers and a kitchen. You can book online here.

4. Perry Farm Campground

Perry Farm is a beautiful two acre tropical flower farm located in Kahaluu valley, just up the road from Kaneohe and short drive from Kualoa Ranch. It’s also nearby a very special place on Oahu: The Kaneohe Bay Sandbar.

They have a few spots available for campervans to camp and basic amenities including a bathroom and hot showers. It’s located in the mountains, so you’ll want to keep in mind that it can get a bit cool at night.

The best part about Perry Farm Campground is the beautiful scenery. You’ll wake up to a fantastic view. The prices are reasonable, starting at $55/night per site (up to 5 guests) and you can reserve your camping site here.

5. Waimanalo Farmstay

This family farm makes for a beautiful place to park you campervan for the night. The farm is tropical and green with incredible views of the mountains. It’s a peaceful and secluded setting where chickens freely roam and you may spot the occasional pig!

The location is not far from some great hikes and beaches. The Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail is just 10 minutes down the road and if you like white, sandy beaches with calm waters you can’t go wrong heading to nearby Waimanalo Beach or up the road to our favorite beach on the whole island: Lanikai. There’s another great hike there, as well: Lanikai Pillboxes. Short hike with a great view.

The farm / campground includes amenities such as a flushing toilet and a hot shower. The prices start at a reasonable $50/night per car and you can reserve your spot here.

6. Living Circle Farms Hawaii

This campground is located in 10 minutes from the Dole Plantation and about 20 minutes from Mililani (where you’ll find the only Costco on island – a great place to stock up on supplies or grab a bite to eat). It’s a peaceful retreat with sweeping views of the ocean and fresh fruit for you to enjoy.

Some of the amenities include WiFi, toilets and potable water. You’ll be sleeping right next to banana trees. They have space available for van or RV parking and you can book here.

7. Plan B Campground

When Plan A falls through, Plan B is there to save the day. Just 20 minutes from Honolulu Airport, this campground has everything you need and it’s located right on the beach. It’s quiet, safe and has toilets, showers and even an outlet to charge your phone or laptop. You can book you stay here.

The Best Oahu Campgrounds for Your Campervan

These are your options for campervan camping on Oahu. It’s up to you to choose the kind of experience you want whether it’s on the north shore at Malaekahana or you want to stay close to Honolulu at Sun Farm. If you’re last minute, you can always try Plan B campground. There are also many county and state campgrounds on the island, but they are not open for campervans so you would need a tent and many have a homelessness issue.
