Lydgate Park Campground

Introduction

Lydgate Park Campground is one of the most family-friendly campgrounds on the island. It’s a great Kauai county campground that is well-organized and has a great location. There are pads and grills for each campsite, clean bathrooms and a beautiful beach. It also has a very interesting wooden playground nearby that can be a lot of fun for the kids. I would say that it makes a great base for exploring the East Side of Kauai. Click here to reserve a spot at Lydgate Park Campground.

This is one of the more popular campgrounds on the island, so be sure to book early. Permits are required, and the campsites can accommodate 5-10 people depending on which one you book. The permits for Lydgate cost $25 per campsite if you’re a not a Hawaii resident. I know the price is high compared to other county campgrounds, but the beauty and location make it worth it.

Lydgate closes at 10AM on Tuesday until 12PM Thursday for maintenance, so you’ll need to plan accordingly.

Lydgate Park Campground Fees and Reservations

Did you know that for years you either had to go in person or mail in to get a permit for Kauai County Campground permits? Well, not anymore! You can book your campsite for $25/night. You can reserve a spot on the official county of Kauai campground reservation system.

Important note: Lydgate Park Campground is closed from Tuesday 10AM-Thursday 12PM each week for maintenance.

Is Lydgate Park Campground camper van or Roof Top Tent friendly?

No, unfortunately it is not. You’re going to need to have a ground tent that you can pitch if you’re going to want to stay at Lydgate. If you’re want to stay in a campvervan or Roof Top Tent I would recommend going up to Kumu Camp and Anahola.

Lydgate Park Campground Alternatives

Lydgate is a popular campground among tourists and locals, alike. It’s common to find it fully booked, especially on weekends. If you need an alternative, you can find all Kauai’s campgrounds here.

If you want to stay at a nearby county campground, I would recommend checking out Anahola County Campground. If you’re in a campervan or want to book a cabin, you should check out Kumu Camp at Anahola. It’s a great campground.

Conclusion

Lydgate Park Campground makes for a great base for exploring the more populous part of Kauai between Lihue and Kapaa. It’s a convenient location and right on a beautiful beach. We like how it’s not too far from the airport if you’re just getting in or getting ready to leave Kauai. Whatever your reason for staying at Lydgate Park, happy camping!
