Where to Take Your Kauai Camper Rental

A Kauai camper rental works best when you build your route around the island’s beach parks and state parks instead of trying to see everything in one loop. The east side gives you an easy start: Lydgate Beach Park has calm swimming ponds and shaded picnic spots, good for settling in after you pick up your van in Lihue or Kapaʻa.

Heading west, Waimea Canyon State Park is worth the drive even if you’re not stopping to camp there. The lookouts are a short walk from the road, and the canyon views are some of the best on the island. If you’re continuing toward Kokee State Park, check current road and weather conditions first, since that side of the island sees more rain.

On the north shore, you’ll find Anini Beach Park and Haena State Park, both good options if your route includes a permitted campground stay. Remember that your camper rental gets you to these spots, but Kauai county and state park rules mean you’ll still need a tent for the night at most locations. Our Kauai Campground guide breaks down which campgrounds allow overnight stays and also check our guide on how to get a permit in Kauai campgrounds before you go.

Keep your route flexible. Kauai is small enough that you won’t spend your whole trip driving, so leave room to stop at a beach park that looks good or stay an extra night somewhere you didn’t expect to love.

Rent Kauai Campers with Lemon Drop Campers

Booking through Lemon Drop Campers gets you 10% off every Kauai campervan on this page, no small print attached. That is real money back in your pocket for a trip you were already planning to take.

Every van you see here is vetted and insured, backed by verified hosts and 24/7 support through our rental partner. You get all of that protection, plus a discount you will not find booking elsewhere.

A campervan also solves two costs at once. Instead of paying for a hotel room and a separate rental car, the van covers both. For most trips longer than a few days, that adds up fast.

Every listing shows exactly what you are getting: sleeping capacity, vehicle size, and host rating, so there is no guessing what “camper ready” actually means. And since Kauai law does not allow sleeping inside your vehicle at most campgrounds, we tell you that upfront so you can plan for a tent and know exactly what your trip looks like before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you legally camp with a campervan on Kauai?

Yes, you can legally camp with a campervan on Kauai, but only in designated state, county, or private campgrounds with a valid permit. Sleeping in your vehicle, stealth camping, or parking overnight along public streets, beach pullouts, or unpermitted areas is strictly illegal and can result in fines. Your campervan gets you there. You’ll still need a tent for the night.

Kumu Camp in Anahola is the one confirmed exception where sleeping inside your vehicle is allowed. You can also check our Kauai Campground guide to check different campgrounds for camping.

Usually, yes, for trips longer than three or four days. You’re combining two costs into one, and van rates run lower than a hotel room during peak season. For very short trips or larger groups, split hotel rooms can sometimes come out ahead — compare your actual dates against the listings above before deciding.
