The 10 best Campervans in Big Island for Under $150

The Big Island is one of the best islands in Hawaii for a campervan trip.

It’s bigger, more diverse, and less crowded than most of the other islands. In a single day you can drive from dry lava fields on the Kona coast to rainforest near Hilo to volcano country in the south. Having your own camper setup here just makes the whole thing easier.

The catch is that campervan options here in Big Island are more limited than Oahu, and prices tend to run a little higher. But there are still solid picks available under $150 a night and that’s exactly what this guide covers.

Quick note: Prices and availability can change fast, especially during busy travel months, so always double-check before you book. As of April 2026, this is the updated campervan listing under $150 on the Big Island.

How to Choose the Right Campervan on the Big Island

Not every campervan is the right fit for every trip. Here are a few things to think about before you book.

1. Decide which side of the island matters more.

The Big Island is genuinely big, you will drive more than you expect.

Most campervans here pick up from the Kona side, which is drier and closer to the beaches. But if your trip is focused on Hilo, Volcanoes National Park, or the east coast, one of the Hilo-based pickups makes a lot more sense.

2. Think about how many people you’re traveling with.

A few of these vans sleep 4, but most sleep 2. Know your number before you book.

3. Check if you need pet-friendly.

Only two options on this list are pet-friendly, the Carlos Vantana and the Toyota FJ Cruiser. If you’re bringing a dog, those are your options.

4. Book early.

There are only about 10 campervan options on the Big Island right now. When one gets booked, your choices shrink fast. If you find something that fits your trip, lock it in.

5. Plan your campgrounds before you book the van.

This matters a lot in Hawaii. Most campgrounds require permits, and some work better for vehicle-based setups than others. It helps to know where you’re sleeping before you commit to a rig.
